Meet Author David Haynes

Novelist and short story writer David Haynes is a celebrated chronicler of Black middle-class life in the American Midwest. He is the author of seven novels for adults and five books for younger readers, and is an emeritus professor of English at Southern Methodist University, where he directed the creative writing program for ten years. Since 1996 he has taught regularly in MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. His most recent release is Right by My Side, a 30th Anniversary edition from Penguin Classics.

Caroline M. Mar is the great-granddaughter of a railroad laborer and the author of Special Education (Texas Review Press) and Dream of the Lake (Bull City Press). A high school health educator in her hometown San Francisco, she is getting to know her new home of Oakland. Carrie is a graduate of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, an alumna of VONA, and a member of Rabble Collective. She has been granted residencies at Storyknife, Ragdale, and Hedgebrook, among others.
